I have been sailing for 14 years or so. My experiences include off-shore deliveries and bare-boat cruises jaunts. My most recent trip was a winter delivery of a 57’ catamaran from Annapolis, MD to West Palm Beach, FL. I have done two runs from Bermuda to Newport (aboard a Swan '44) a run from Ft. Lauderdale to Annapolis (Morgan 50’) and a run from Newport to Camden, ME (Bristol ’35). In addition to these trips, I have sailed from the Long Island’s Peconic Bays up to Massachusetts’s Buzzards Bay, and crewed aboard a lovely wooden vessel named for three Corinthian cruises based in the New England area. Finally, when time and opportunity permit, I race aboard a J30 in Annapolis, before that aboard a J24.

Those who have sailed with me will agree that I am as home in the galley as I am in the cockpit. One of things I have enjoyed most while doing deliveries is learning how to trouble-shoot and maintain the boat. And for some reason unbeknown to me, I rather like cleaning boats! Also, before turning into a sailor, I was an avid fisherman. Having worked a few head-boats in my youth, I can help catch, clean and cook fish.

I am seeking employment as a deck hand on board a private yacht

I have worked on the "Lady Kathryn" which is an 83' Cheoy lee private yacht. My job description was as follows. I was responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the yacht i.e. painting, varnishing, waxing, cleaning of the skiff and preventive maintenance. I would also act as care taker for the yacht up to a month at a time while the captain was gone this took place in Jamaica, The Cayman Is. and all over the Keys to Ft. Lauderdale. I was also in charge of preparing the dive gear for the day. Filling the tanks and the cleaning of the gear along with the fishing gear.

I worked for "American Safari cruises" on their 120' yacht "Safari Quest". I was lead deck hand in charge of shipboard and the skiff maintenance. I also would stand short wheel watches and act as look out. This yacht would carry up to 20 guests so my customer service skills are very much up to par. I worked all over so. East Alaska on board this vessel and all over San Francisco and up the old Sacramento to Sacramento. I was in charge of taking passengers on shore excursions via the skiff.

I also worked for "Alaska Sightseeing Cruise West" I worked on their flagship the "Spirit Of Endeavor" it is a 217' small cruise ship, which carries up to 102 passengers. I was senior Deck hand on board and was in charge of painting, cleaning, wheel watch, skiff ops, running the crane and passenger room maintenance. It was allot of boat to take care of. I also worked on the "Spirit Of 98" for the same company and duties were much the same. I would reposition the boats up and down the west coast.

Hi. I'm a 22yr old British guy looking to earn money in the highs and lows of cruising/racing yachts. Looking to be able to give 1 weeks notice to current employee. I am currently working with Bluewater Projects and the Mystics 55 & 60, but it's time to get out there and enjoy life sailing. EXPERIENCE Before joining the team who build Steven Jones's designed Prima 38, I was Deckhand/Helm for Pete Townshend (The Who) on his boats which included ~ 60ft Laurent Giles yacht, 65ft converted fishing vessel (with all the toys!!), 37ft Targa Fairline and his accompanying floatilla of smaller boats. It was a job that I thoroughly enjoyed and want to experience again and again. The job ended due to some of the vessels being sold, and therefore I was no longer required. Gutted!! I have a very good reference instead though! I have helmed/crewed on a wide variety of racing yachts and keelboats locally gaining many trophies along the way. I'm currently a J24 helm (I love these boats!). I've had several years of teaching RYA dinghy sailing. I have achieved a small collection of RYA certificates which include Sea Survival. I am looking to get away and start a life of sailing, which is priority for me. I would fit in well with any keen crew, I have a good sense of humour and enjoy the odd beer or few!!
